Technical Content Writer

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Determine the needs of end users for technical documentation.
  • Create operating instructions (user manuals).
  • Create how-to manuals.
  • Review product enhancements and liaise with UX designers, business analysts and developers.
  • Revise documents as new changes to the products are effected.
  • Work with technical staff to suggest better approaches for an intuitive product design.
  • Organize and write supporting documents for products.
  • Use diagrams, animation, and charts that increase users’ understanding of the products.
  • Select appropriate medium such as manuals or online videos to convey the instructions in the most effective way.
  • Standardize content across platforms and media.
  • Aid in the creation of “frequently asked questions” pages to help technical support staff, clients, and other users.
  • Perform usability studies to help improve the product and quality of documentation.

  • Other duties as deemed necessary.

IMPORTANT QUALITIES

  • Communication skills. Technical writers must be able to take complex, technical information and translate it for colleagues and clients who have non-technical backgrounds.
  • Detail oriented. Technical writers create detailed instructions for others to follow. As a result, they must be detailed and precise at every step so that the instructions can be useful.
  • Imagination. Technical writers must be able to think about a procedure or product in the way that a person without technical experience would think about it.
  • Teamwork. Technical writers must be able to work well with others. They are always part of a team: with other writers; with UX designers, Business Analysts, and stakeholders; and with the technical people whose information they are explaining.
  • Technical skills. Technical writers must be able to understand and then explain technical information.
  • Writing skills. Technical communicators must have excellent writing skills to be able to explain technical information clearly to business users.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree or good competency in one of the following:
    • Journalism
    • English
    • Communications
    • Marketing
  • Bachelor’s degree or good competency in one of the following:
    • Engineering
    • Computer Science
  • Prior experience in the iGaming industry is desirable.
  • Willingness to adopt change, new ideas, processes.
  • Challenge status-quo and drive creativity, innovation and operational excellence.
  • Knowledge of Agile development processes.
  • Knowledge of flow-charts and similar Software Engineering frameworks.
  • Web design experience because of the growing use of online documentation is considered an asset.
  • Experience as a software engineer, database engineer or similar technical hands on position within software development is considered an asset.
  • Travel and work within an international context.
